My Doubts And Fears…Melted Away! After Amsoil came out with the 25,000 mile oil filter...I switched to changing my oil and filter A 900,000 Mile Journey! Now the fun part begins...instead of changing my oil every 5000 miles or once every two weeks... I can now go 3 months without changing my oil or 35,000 miles! The original engine made it to 930,599 miles..
I change the engine oil and filter every 25,000 miles.
I change the transmission oil and filter every 150,000 miles.
I add no additives to the engine or transmission oil.
Million Mile Chevy
While traveling Interstate 71 northeast out of Louisville in the spring of 2000…I stopped to take a break.
I had about 60,000 miles on my van at the time and had been asking around for several weeks
about motor oils. I was changing mine twice a month (every 5000 miles)…and was getting tired of
changing it so often.
I parked beside a driver with a Chevy van just like mine. We both got out of our vans about the same
time and so I struck a conversation up with him.
I asked how his van was running and what kind of gas mileage he was getting.
And then I asked what kind of oil he was using.

He said, “Amsoil”. To which I replied…”Amsoil”, I never heard of it!” Why Amsoil…”I asked?”
He replied, “It’s a synthetic oil and I change it every 25,000 miles.”
I said…”you got to be joking”!!!
With a smile on his face…the driver reached under the dash of his Chevy van… and pulled the hood
release. I watched the driver very intensely as he pulls the dipstick out of the engine. I noticed the oil
level on the dipstick was at the full level…and I wanted to get my fingers on that oil to see how it felt.
Liquid Gold Between My Fingers
To be honest with you…it felt just like any other oil…as I rubbed it between my fingers.
What I didn’t realize at the time…I had liquid gold between my fingers!
I asked him…how many miles do you have on this oil…he said about 20,000 miles.
I thanked him for his kindness and telling me about Amsoil…and headed north down
interstate 71 towards Cincinnati.
I was extremely skeptical…the very thing I was looking for…
extended oil change… I’d found it… and then couldn’t believe
what I’d seen or heard!
Many thoughts were racing through my mind like:

I ordered the synthetic oil for the engine…transmission…rear differential…and the grease for the
front end…drive shaft and wheel bearings.

In less than a week…the Amsoil products arrived at my doorstep…the date was May 11, 2000.
I drained the petroleum oil out of my 350 Chevy engine for the last time…and poured in 5 ½ quarts
of Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30 synthetic oil and installed the Amsoil oil filter.

I put a tube of the Amsoil Multi-Purpose Grease into my grease gun…and greased the front
steering/suspension and the drive shaft. ( Greased every 12,500 miles). The mileage on my van
that day was 68,250 miles.

I immediately called my local Chevrolet Dealer…Garrett Chevrolet in Greenville, OH… Owned
by Ron Garrett…talked with their service manager…Tony…and scheduled my van for an appointment
to drain the transmission and differential oil and install Amsoil.
On May 15, 2000…the Amsoil synthetic oil was added to the transmission and differential.
The mileage on my van that day was 68,745 miles.

*NOTE* Amsoil 0W-30 oil...is a 35,000 mile oil. For the first 700,000 miles...I changed the
Amsoil oil filter every 11,700 miles (at the time the oil filters were good for 12,500 miles) and I
changed my oil every 35,000 miles.
every 25,000 miles. My van had around 700,000 miles on it at the time. Due to the higher
mileage and many hours of idle time...I felt more comfortable with the 25,000 mile oil change.

Ball Joints Replaced at 792,000 Miles…
Thanks To Amsoil Synthetic Grease!
I've hit so many craters in the road…at around 600,000 miles…I had to replace my original rims.
They could no longer be balanced because they were out-of-round (bent)!
The reason I mentioned my rims being bent...is because that's an indication of the beating the front
suspension takes day after day...mile after mile.
What you're about to read in the next paragraph is absolutely amazing. It testifies to the lubricative
strength of the Amsoil synthetic products.
At 792,000...I finally had to replace the ball joints. (The left front ball joint that I’d replaced at 278,795
miles...due to a tear in the protective rubber...did not need replaced…changed it anyway). The tie rods
and steering arms are all still original at 1,000,000 miles! Thanks to Amsoil synthetic grease.

Disclaimer: I make no claim or guarantee that you can drive your vehicle 900,000 miles
without any engine or transmission failures. Each vehicles drive train is manufactured
differently...some will last longer than others. If your vehicle is used...there may already
be considerable internal wear to the engine and transmission due to improper maintenance
and inferior oils. Transmissions that have over 100,000 miles on them...and the oil has
never been changed...have a history of failure when adding new transmission oil!
Vehicles under 50,000 miles are excellent candidates for adding synthetic transmission oil.
On the other hand...if your vehicle has 150,000 miles on it...and you have changed the
transmission oil every 50,000 miles...your vehicle is a good candidate for synthetic
transmission oil. We have found (there's a few exceptions...if your engine is using oil) that
you can add synthetic oil to your engine at almost any mileage. However...if your engine
has over 50,000 miles on it...I strongly suggest using an engine flush before adding
synthetic oil to your engine.
